Is gouache paint and poster paint the same?
I'm a Fine Arts student, and I'm doing my thesis right now, using gouache paint as my medium for my artworks. My friends says that gouache paint is the same with poster paint, is that true?
NO- gouache is opaque paint made primarily for things that need to be reproduced like textiles and cards due to it's opaque nature. It's great for making scan-able prints which why it is used heavily in wallpaper and items that need to be printed.
Poster Paint is a cheap painted mostly made out of protein like Elmer's glue- it normally has a lot of egg in it. It paints differently- can wrinkle your paper and is not archive friendly. It's used mostly in crafts due to it's cheap nature. It can also flake off and is not very durable. It's used with children because it's safe and cheap.
