Help with spot Trim painting on 20 year old paint?
The paint on my interior trim is 20 years old, but has not faded. I do not want to paint the whole thing over, just spot paint it. It just has chips/spots where furniture has hit. I believe it is oil paint, or an enamel or epoxy because it is extremely hard and smooth. It took me forever to scrape some bad places off. In some spots there is bare wood.
I tried to use latex paint and it just ran off. So I switched to Olympic Fast hide Gloss oil paint (white). And I shook it really well, and I put many coats on but it was transparent. I could still see the wood. So I went to the store and the lady said the paint looked fine and wasn't sure what was wrong. So I returned it, but now I don't know what I need to paint this trim. Any ideas?
The original paint is gloss. You need to sand WELL and use a primer.
