What is a good art kit?
Drawing please. All I really sketch is fashion designs, so something like that would work too.
Requirements:
Has to be inexpensive
Has to be sold in a common store (something near me)
Has to have quality stuff (no cheapo junk)
Must be colorful
Must be pencil only
Should include and eraser and pencil sharpener.
Has to be in a case or something (otherwise its guaranteed to get lost)
Know any good ones?
Actually, I just want some stuff that comes with the main colors in a box. There is one my friend has, its an art kit and its in a metal box with "Art101" written on it. i can't spend much because my mom won't pay much. And cheapo stuff to me is the kind of pencil that the lead falls out of and you have to go through 1/4 of the pencil every time you need to sharpen it.
Check out the drawing supplies at Michaels. You will find some packages that contain the pencils, erasers, sharpeners, etc. that you will need. You can pick up some colored pencils in that aisle as well. There are many different brands and the prices will reflect the quality of the pencils. In general, Prismacolor is one of the best colored pencil brands available. Derwent is also an excellent brand. You can buy different tins that contain anywhere from 12 to 120 colored pencils. I would suggest going for a tin of 24 or 36 colors to start with. Once you see what colors you tend to like to use the most, go back to Michaels and you can buy Prismacolors individually and get the extra colors that you want to use. One of the most useful items that you may be able to get in a drawing kit is a pencil extender. You use this when your pencil, colored or graphite is getting too short to handle comfortably and you push the top into the extender and you get more usage out of your supplies. Since the colored pencils are already in a metal container, you're all set there for keeping them together. Just purchase an inexpensive pencil case to put your other drawing supplies in and you're all set. Something I just purchased at Michaels was an art bin. It's almost like a tool box, but it's for art supplies. While it's not large enough to hold paper or sketch pads, it will certainly hold all the drawing utensils that you will start to accumulate. Get extra erasers, the white plastic and the kneadable ones as well. You should be getting an eraser or two in your drawing kit depending on what brand you select. Prismacolor makes a good starter kit and I believe General's does as well. You will also want to get an eraser shield if there isn't one in the kit. This is a flat piece of thin plastic or metal that has various sized openings in it. You place the appropriate sized opening over an area that you want to erase and then you won't risk disturbing other areas of your drawing. Hope all this information helps you a bit!
