With online color charts, do the colors on the color charts appear lighter or darker than the actual paint?
I am looking for certain brands of acrylic paint (FolkArt and Americana) that I can't find in the store so I am shopping for it online. I was just wondering how accurate online color charts are. Do the colors appear lighter or darker than the actual paint? Thanks.
You would be better served to go to the paint store to check the actual color of the acrylic paint you need. Sorry you can't find it in the stores.
When the colors are put on line they are accurate to a degree, but there are variances in monitors. You can change the brightness and contrast on your monitor to make it lighter or darker. Are you concerned about saturation and hue? Those should be the same. The colors may appear lighter and brighter because you are looking at a light source (monitor) and not a paper printed source.
Copying the colors and printing them on your printer give you the same problem. Printers vary also. If you have noticed, your printer doesn't print the same color you have on the screen most times.
If you have purchased this acrylic paint before, there should be a number printed or stamped on the crimping of the tube. If it was a color you liked, make reference to that number when you order it on line. If this is the first time you have ordered, be prepared for some surprises. Good luck with your painting project.
